What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?


Girl's and Women Health Initiative runs The Pakistan PCOS Group to raise awareness about this commonest hormonal problem in young girls, causing weight gain, facial hair growth, acne and period problems. This is nearly an epidemic and has long term health consequences.

We hold interactive sessions in schools, colleges, universities and clubs to empower girls and women with knowledge to be able to live healthily

  • PCOS is one of the most common disorders of the female endocrine system, effecting 5 to 10% of all women
  • Also known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, PCOS is reported to be a fastly growing problem among teenager girls
    Teenagers may experience irregular or completely absent periods,weight gain , acne . facial hair and mood changes
  • Latest research shows that hormone imbalance caused by Insulin Resistance and PCOS predisposes women, including adolescent girls, to additional heath problems in the longer term.
